In a world where we can effortlessly glimpse what other people are up to, judging others has somewhat become the norm. Whether we admit it or not, it’s easy to judge others, especially when it comes to their spirituality. We make our own impression about them based on the trivial information that we read about them; and oftentimes, this judgment taints our perception of who they are as a person without really getting to know them on a deeper level. But before judging other people’s relationship with God, don’t you think it’s more important to assess where you are on a spiritual level? Here are some signs you’re not being as spiritual as you think.
1. You criticize other people’s enlightenment.
There are many of us who scorn other people for being enlightened. We laugh at them and their beliefs and crack jokes about their spirituality. We pass judgment about how enlightened they are. This is a sure sign that our own spirituality is lacking depth.
2. You check on other people’s spirituality.
You are fully aware that you are not practicing the beliefs of your religion yet you are not bothered by it. This is because you are constantly looking at what other people are doing. You compare your actions and deeds to them as a yardstick for your spiritual progress instead of just focusing on your own.
3. You don’t actually practice your faith.
There is a lot to say about people who are ignorant about the teachings of the Lord. But it is far worse for people who are fully aware yet still choose not to practice the beliefs of their religion. This is a given if you do not have a strong belief in God and in the Christian faith.
4. You always blame other people.
Life is not perfect, neither is it always fair. But that does not give us the license to constantly blame other people for our misfortunes. When we are not accountable for our actions, we will always point our fingers to everyone else but our own. If you are guilty of letting other people take the blame for your misfortunes, this is another sign that you are not as in touch with your spirituality as you thought you are.
5. You are too concerned about your spiritual image.
Your relationship with God should not be flaunted or displayed for your own selfish interests. If you need to let other people know that you are a devout Catholic just because you want to portray a positive image, there is definitely something wrong with your spirituality.
It goes without saying that judging other people and assessing their spirituality from a mere distance is bad. It will not do anyone good. In fact, it is a complete waste of time. So instead of spending another minute looking at other people’s activities and passing on judgment about their spirituality based on these, you might as well look in the mirror.
Take a look at your own spirituality. Assess your own spirituality and move towards a closer and a more intimate relationship with God.
