What the bible says
According to Genesis 2:15, God gave Adam this command to ensure that his house (the garden) was covered, protected and provided for. Therefore, it is no coincidence that happy and successful marriages are those unions where the man is able to fulfill his duty of protecting and providing for his wife and his family. You can see evidence of this today – many couples survive the hardships of married life not only because they hold on to their love for each other but also because the man works hard to protect his garden.
Some feminists and social theorists who have radical beliefs may point out that patriarchy is not a good thing. That putting a man in charge enslaves the woman and unnecessarily trials. But the truth is that this only happens when a woman submits to a man who does not follow God’s teachings. If a woman chooses a man who is not an ardent follower of Christ, then their union as a married couple will not be blessed by God’s grace.
What women needs to know
If you are a woman who is of marrying age, bear in mind that it is important to choose a man that lives up to God’s standards. This means that the man should be fully capable of treating you with respect, treating you as an equal, and protecting and providing for all your needs. Do not think that these needs are merely material needs. Emotional and spiritual needs are also important. If a man is able to connect with you on these levels, then you may consider him as a prospective husband.
Marriage advice for men
As for the man, it is also important to note that choosing a life-long partner means finding a good woman who will look after your needs and nurture your family. A good woman needs to have a strong faith in God so that she may walk with you in God’s love and light. Being hasty about choosing the right person may lead to getting stuck in a relationship that is not blessed by God. Such relationships may easily succumb to the simplest challenges, simply because the union was not created and strengthened with God’s love at its very core.
Why right choice choice matters
All relationships face difficulties and hardships. But only those who are truly blessed are strong enough to survive. Those that are not strengthened by God easily fail. These relationships do not involve a man of character who is capable of following God’s order of protecting and providing for the needs of his wife and his children. Either that, or the woman does not have what it takes to love and respect her man while nurturing her family.
Putting God at the center of your relationship
At an early age, we were urged to choose the right person by being meticulous about compatibility, background, and other things. But more importantly, we should choose the right person based on how strong their faith in God is. The right person will not lead you to sin. Instead, the right person will walk with you in God’s light and love and be one with you in making your marriage a happy and successful one.
