We live a very fast-paced existence. There are plenty of deadlines to meet, people to see, experiences to try, and a hundred other things that are going on, all at the same time. With all these things running in our head, it is little wonder why slowing down is hard to do, especially because it is easy to feel like there is a lot more we need to accomplish in our lives.
The main challenge with this inability to slow down is that we fail to see and appreciate the important things in our lives. When we are always off in a hurry, we do not give due importance to the things that we need to pay more attention to. Oftentimes, we even fail to recognize that we are getting sidetracked. Moreover, when you are not slowing down, it becomes easier for you to be ill at ease with a lot of things. You feel anxious and impatient at times. You feel unhappy and you feed your negativity and this may soon wreak havoc in your life.
What does it really take to slow down and be at peace with yourself? If truth be told, it is really as simple as taking a few moments to be silent. Be mindful of your actions and of your thoughts. Be mindful of the people around you. Show appreciation for the things that you have and take that much-needed breather.
When you are at peace with yourself, you are more equipped to trust yourself, and others, as well. You are not surrounded by negativity and doubt because you are confident about yourself and you are fully aware of the goodness in your heart. You are not enslaved by your past actions and the sins you have committed in the past. You are already able to forgive yourself for the things that you didn’t do, or even the things you didn’t do right.
Another plus side to being at peace with yourself is that you have the ability to focus on what is at hand. You’re not constantly looking back at what has happened in the past. You are not haunted by the things that you had no control over, but still hurts you up until now. When you are able to find peace in yourself, you become more productive. You are happier, and you are able to make better decisions in life without being constantly bugged by uncertainties.
At the end of the day, being at peace is being able to live in the present rather than constantly taking a few steps back. Remember, life is meant to be lived forward. You do not need to look back if you are happy and confident about the decisions you made in your life today.
In time, you can find the peace that you need in your life. You can find it easier to open up to other people and let other people break your walls. You can find happiness from within. This is all possible with God’s grace.
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
