Are You Genuinely Wealthy?
The superficial belief of most people is that wealth is directly related to the state of your finances. If you are wealthy, it is automatically assumed that you are wealthy; that you have been blessed to a great extent and you have everything you could possibly need in life. But this is not exactly how it is. Wealth is not relative to how fat your bank account has been, especially if you do not have love, friends, and freedom to make your life happy and more meaningful.
Wealthy people are not always the happiest
A case in point are the wealthy individuals in our society. Most of them walk among us and as we watch them from afar, we easily assume that they are very happy with their lives. But if we look closer, we will often see that there are a lot of things that are missing in their lives. They are not happy at all. This is because being wealthy does not guarantee having a happy and contented life. Most rich people like being rich because it gives them comfort, convenience, and security. But oftentimes, they are still not happy because they may still be on the lookout for true love, true friends, and freedom.
Exchanging love, friendship, and freedom for wealth
If you had the option to choose, would you choose to be rich at the expense of not having the person you love to spend your life with? Would you choose a life without friends? Without the freedom to be the person you want to be? Chances are, you wouldn’t. This tells us that equating wealth and material possessions with happiness is a fallacy. It is merely comfortable and convenient to be rich, but it will not bring happiness in your life. This will sound like a cliche, but if truth be told, the best things in life really cannot be bought.
Is there something missing?
While it is also true that happiness is a state of mind, you cannot claim to be happy and fulfilled if there are certain aspects of your life that are still missing. Even if you are the richest person in your community, if you lose the person you love and cannot share your blessings with that person, you will still feel that something is lacking. In the same way, even if you are the richest and the most popular person in your group, if you do not have real friends who love you and accept you as you are and if you do not have the freedom to pursue your passion, you will still not be happy.
How to be genuinely happy and wealthy
The pursuit of happiness starts with us. Regardless of how rich or how poor we are, happiness will not evade our lives if we know how to appreciate the people around us. If we show love and compassion to others, this love and compassion will bounce back to us. We will welcome love in our lives, and we will find true friends who are really worth keeping. The first step is really to be practice contentment and to be grateful for all the blessings that come you way. And believing that no matter what happens, a better future is always waiting for us if we have unwavering faith in God’s promise of love, hope, and eternal salvation.
This story shows that true wealth as well as happiness is not measured by material things. Love, friendship and freedom are far more valuable.
